(Andy's MSN profile lists WVU Boxing Club) Boxing Club? Wow. Do you guys travel? |
| [Andy]: |
(laughing) Boxing Club... I haven't really had any time to put forth to that lately. My freshman year, more than any of my years, it's where I spent most of my time. They haven't taken it off my profile... they keep all that stuff the same... but I still get down there whenever I have some free time... throw some punches. it's a good thing... it clears my mind. |
| [Jim]: |
How many people, roughly, are in it? |
| [Andy]: |
Um... give or take... maybe 15 or 20 guys.
|
| [Jim]: |
Do you fight other schools? |
| [Andy]: |
Back when I was doing it, we just sparred each other. Trained on the hand pads. Whenever we arraigned some bouts, it was either with each other or it was bouts with some guys that would come in.
|
| [Jim]: |
Better movie, Fight Club or Rocky? |
| [Andy]: |
Rocky.
|
| [Jim]: |
Which one? |
| [Andy]: |
Favorite Rocky?
|
| [Jim]: |
Clubber Lang... Ivan Drago? |
| [Andy]: |
They were all so good, but you can't beat the first because it's the original. But other than that one, I'd say Rocky IV. Because he goes to Russia, he goes through all that training and it pays off for him.

| [Jim]: |
Did you play youth football? |
| [Andy]: |
Yeah. Cheat Lake Chargers.
Editor's Note... it was a baited question. I just wanted to give some props to Cheat Lake Football! |
| [Jim]: |
Who was your coach back then? |
| [Andy]: |
It was back when the Webster family was working with it. Bob Webster, Mark Webster's dad... he was definitely the first coach I remember having... that was most influential.
|
| |
| [Jim]: |
On your (outdated) profile... one of the founders of Kappa Delta Rho? |
| [Andy]: |
That's another thing that hasn't come off. |
| [Jim]: |
I'll still ask you a question anyway... best sorority you had mixers with? |
| [Andy]: |
Best sorority? Alpha Xi (Alpha Xi Delta). There were a lot of my friends in there, so I always had fun with it. |
| |
| [Jim]: |
Coach on the current staff you do not want to piss off? |
| [Andy]: |
Coach Rod. |
| [Jim]: |
Have you pissed him off? |
| [Andy]: |
I think everybody on the team has, so... what gets him is when you don't take it serious academically. |
| |
| [Jim]: |
Other than the major sports, what are you really good at? |
| [Andy]: |
I consider myself really good at shooting pool. And, I like to ski whenever we get a chance, but that never happens... lately. I'm fairly good at golf. |
| [Jim]: |
Where do you play? |
| [Andy]: |
Pines, Paradise (Lake)... |
| [Jim]: |
(laughing) Pines and Paradise? Editor's Note... for those that may not be familiar with Morgantown golf courses... Pines is a private country club that hosts a LPGA Futures Tour event and various USGA sanctioned tournaments. The last time I played Paradise Lake, the group ahead of me had 7 people, maybe 10 total clubs, and 2 shirts. |
| [Andy]: |
Pines, Paradise, Mountainview... wherever. It doesn't matter how good the quality of the courses are... I just want to get out there and have some fun. |
| |
| [Jim]: |
When you go on road trips, who do you room with? |
| [Andy]: |
Right now, I'm rooming with Mike Bilokonsky (freshman DT). |
| [Jim]: |
Is he OK? |
| [Andy]: |
Yeah, he's like me, we get along real good.
|
| [Jim]: |
Bed on time? |
| [Andy]: |
Yeah, we go to bed on time. Sometimes I annoy him because I like to sleep with the TV on, and he doesn't. So, I hold the rope and turn the TV off.

| [Jim]: |
For UHS (University High School) to beat MHS (Morgantown High School) this year, what do they have to do... besides score more points? |
| [Andy]: |
They're going to have to want it more. They're both good teams. Of course, I'd like to see UHS win. |
| |
| [Jim]: |
Do you have any special memories from the North-South game? |
| [Andy]: |
I've got a lot of memories from the North-South game. They're all good. I got captain, and they gave me a scholarship check... and that set me on the right foot for college. |
| [Jim]: |
Do you keep in touch with other Division I athletes from that team? |
| [Andy]: |
I spoke to Paul Johnson (OL, from Parkersburg, at Ohio University). And, of course, Geremy Rodamer (DB, from Morgantown, at Marshall)... he's one of my very good friends. We hang out all the time... whenever we get some free time. But, that never happens. Matt Mohler (LB, from Morgantown, at Lehigh) every now and then. |
| |
| [Jim]: |
When you're 35, what do you want to be doing? |
| [Andy]: |
35? I'd like to be maybe a year or two away from retiring. |
| [Jim]: |
Really? |
| [Andy]: |
Yeah. I'd like to be down south. Florida. I love Florida. I love that place down there. Every time I get vacation time, I try to go down to Florida.
I don't know about the whole family thing. I guess I'll just play that by ear. |
| |
| [Jim]: |
If you had to pick one person from this team that has a career in standup comedy, who is it? |
| [Andy]: |
It might just be Pat McAfee. It would be close between Pat McAfee or Owen Schmitt. McAfee is just a one of a kind guy... he's goofy and he can back it up with some funny material. He gets me laughing... he gets me rolling whenever I'm in a bad mood. |
| |
| [Jim]: |
Coach Hand told me to ask you this...explain "Jump Around Johnny". |
| [Andy]: |
(chuckling) It would be from the W drill. It's a drill where 3 defensive guys and 3 offensive guys line up. 2 of the offensive guys block and all 3 of the defensive guys try to shed a block and make a tackle. One's a running back (on offense).
So, a linebacker lines up usually across from a tight end... with Coach Hand there... there's cones maybe 3 or 4 yards on each side of you that they've got to keep themselves in. When they blow the whistle, I used to just play around the block... because that's what I used to do... that's my instinct out of high school, just play around the block. And... they called me Jump Around Johnny and all that stuff, so I just started running through the tight ends and then shedding them.
I hadn't heard it for a while until you asked me that. But it definitely originated from Coach Hand. Coming from an offensive coach, they want you to get up in there next to the block. Coming from a defensive guy, you want to keep that blocker from you as far as possible. Just so I didn't have to get heckled anymore, I learned just to do it their way. But, I'm still winning the drill as much as I can. |
| [Jim]: |
Do you have a nickname for him? |
| [Andy]: |
I think he looks like Ben Affleck myself. |
| |
