I have been reading many articles about this
situation and most of them include throwing Coach
B. under the bus. Many of the opinion and sports
articles in the DA have been extremely negative
towards coach B as well. I really can't
understand this.
If he did really want to leave and actually went
through with it, I would be upset but I wouldn't
call him a Benedict Arnold for it either. All
professionals in any business entertain offers
from other teams, businesses, etc. and would be
crazy not to. If he stayed because it didn't
work out money wise, fine. The fact of the
matter is that he chose to stay.
If you think that he wanted to leave purely
because he thinks he has no talent, just remember
that this program was in shambles when he took
the job in the first place! Bobby Huggins, a
former WVU player, didn't want anything to do
with it and has tons of troubles of his own since
then, but he is still considered an icon to most
West Virginians. The fact of the matter is, John
Beilein is not a WVU grad nor a native West
Virginian and neither is his family. If they
don't really like living in WV, so be it. He is
looking out for his family and for that, he
should never be criticized. You could have the
best job in the world but if you and your family
don't like living there, why should you stay.
happiness is not dependant on the job you have,
it's on the life you have outside of work that's
important.
Beilein took a team of undersized players that no
one really wanted and turned them into a great
team. He has earned the respect of his players
and coaches all around the country. The local
media is upset that he doesn't always give them
the time for interviews for which I don't blame
him either seeing as how quickly they went from
articles of praise to calling him a traitor for
thinking of leaving. From my experience ready
sports articles by the local media, most of the
writers aren't worth the paper their drivel is
printed on and are more interested in voicing
their own opinion and stirring up controversy
rather than reporting actual fact.
I am happy that he is staying on to coach WVU and
I will root for him and the team no matter what.
Let's face it, next year may be a bad year for
the team due to it's youth and inexperience and I
know this situation will be used as fuel in
future negative articles during the season. What
we all need to do is be happy that we have a real
great coach that most teams in the country would
do anything to have and for that we should be
proud that, for now, he is ours. |
