When you walk in our shop, you know you're in the heart of Mountaineer Country.

FAQ

I've heard WVU fans are crazy. Is it safe to come support an opposing team?
Yes, Mountaineer fans love to tailgate. Still, most fans take pride in themselves, their state, and their team. Thus, if you show respect, most Mountaineer fans will return it in kind (of course, no matter where you go, they'll always be a few knuckle-heads).

Overall, you will find our fans wear their pride on their sleeves. Almost all problems I've ever seen involved taunting by the opposing fans. If you walk through the Blue Lot talking smack, most likely you will provoke an unkind reaction. If you are obnoxious in the stadium, you will not be well-received.

What is the open container law? I have no idea as to the "official" law, but I can tell you how our experiences have been. I have never seen anyone "busted" for open containers... ever. If you plan to walk around, it's always best to use a cup instead of a can or bottle.

Is beer available in Puskar Stadium?
No. Well, except in Touchdown Terrace. Generally, Puskar Stadium is alcohol free (et hem, flask). Touchdown Terrace is a premium section ($700/season ticket) that includes a private lounge with (eventual) beer sales. Also, the luxury suites contain a semi-full kitchen with the ability to self-stock the bar. Other than that, we regular-folk are alcohol free (et hem, flask).

What time do the lots open?
WVU lots open at 7:00am on Saturday games, no matter the game time. Yes, this means a 7:30pm game will allow a 12 hour tailgate. By 6:30am, there are many cars lined up waiting to get into the Blue Lot. Other lots are less "ambitious".

Non-WVU lots usually match the WVU lots pretty well, in terms of time. In most non-WVU lots, if you beat the attendants there, they'll just come hunt you down once they arive. So, if you get there early, make sure to stick around until you pay. Otherwise, you might get towed.

For weeknight games, the lot openings are announced a few weeks before the game. Puskar Stadium and Ruby Memorial Hospital share a parking lot, so all hospital concerns are worked out before the times are announced.

How do you get a Blue Lot pass?
This has got to be one of the most popular questions. The Mountaineer Athletic Club controls access to the Blue Lot. In order to get a Blue Lot pass (updated April 22nd, 2008), you need to be a Director's Level donor ($3,500/year). This gives you the right to buy the $139 Blue Lot pass. Thus, despite the fact there are a few thousand Blue Lotters, passes are extremely hard to come by, unless you donate. And, even if you do donate, there is now a waiting list.

The game I want to attend is sold out. Are scalpers pretty easy to find?
Yes, they are everywhere. Once you get off either I-68 or I-79, all the way to the stadium gates, scalpers are abound. For basketball, the police usually do a better job of keeping them off University property, but you can still find them along Monongahela Boulevard.

How can I get tickets for games not sold out?
Easy. WVUGame.com or 1-800-WVU-GAME.

Are there tailgates that are open to the public?
One of the best tailgating options for those not hosting their own, especially in terms of location, is the WVU Alumni Association tent. It is open to the public, and for about $20, you get good food and drink (Rolling Rock kegs). This tailgate is in Tent City. For WVU Alumni Association Lifetime Members, admission used to be free, but no longer is.

To reiterate, yes, this is open to everyone. You do not need to be an alumnus to get in. Seriously, this is a great tailgate for the price, location, and atmosphere.

OK, where the heck is Tent City?
If you were standing at Ruby Memorial Hospital and facing the stadium, Tent City is directly to the right of Puskar Stadium, between the Blue Lot and the Brown Lot. (see map)

Based on the opponent, game time, etc, Tent City will feature anywhere from 4-10 large tents, and opens 2 1/2 hours before the game.

Do you have any suggestions for those with children?
WVU offers FanFest before each game. FanFest is located in the indoor training facility next to the Silver Lot. It features kid games, football tosses, wall climbing, and other fun stuff, including the WVU Cheerleaders and the WVU Mountaineer! Each week is a little different, but kids absolutely love going to the FanFest. It usually opens 2 1/2 hours before the game (I believe).
