Football:
There are two types of parking lots for WVU football games: WVU lots and Non-WVU lots. A map of the WVU lots is available
from the Mountaineer Athletic Club web site here:
WVU lots offer the closest opportunities to the stadium. However, most of these lots are reserved for season pass holders (such as ourselves).
Non-WVU parking is getting pretty sparse around the stadium. But, no matter where you end up in Morgantown,
you'll see someone offering parking. These two locations detail some of the sites we're aware of that are close to the stadium, and one is also tailgater-friendly.
Along Route 705:
Many fans park along route 705 (the main road to the stadium from the east, via I-68 and the Mileground), as it's free. However, no tailgating, as you literally are on the shoulder of a 4 lane road (2 each way). If you choose this option, two suggestions... One, get there early. These spaces fill up, and you might end up parking a mile from the stadium. Two, make sure you make the effort to do a U-turn and face the way you came. State Police alter traffic patterns, and if you'd facing the opposite way in which you came, you will be sitting a long, long time before being able to move.
Grassy lot next to Applebee's:
This is completely within walking distance. We haven't used this spot in about 15 years, but it is always filled with cars and tailgaters.
It is very easy getting in and out of this lot. In the above Mountaineer Athletic Club
link, this lot is across the street from the Green Lot.
Basketball:
Tailgating for WVU basketball (like most schools) is less intense than that for football. The WVU Coliseum holds 14,000+, and ample parking can be
found in any of three ways.
Park in the Coliseum parking lot: (update April 22nd, 2008) Most of this lot is now parking pass restricted. This lot is no longer an option for visiting fans.
Park along Monongahela Boulevard: This is a favorite. The Coliseum is directly on Mon Blvd, and instead of turning into the WVU lot, just park on
the road. It is free, and very easy to exit, as you just need to wrangle yourself into the traffic flow. The problem is that for big games, you may need
to park quite a hike away.
Park in Krepps (Suncrest) Park: I did not include a Google map for this one, as it'll just confuse you. Immediately across the street from the Colisuem
is a wooded area. This area slopes down to Krepps Park. You will see people walking up the trail. To get to Krepps parking, turn onto Patteson Drive,
make a left onto Laurel Drive, and then an immediate left into the park area. Parking is nominal (around $5). We have a parking pass to the Coliseum lot, but still park here (Krepps) because it's easier to get in and out of.
